Watkins Glen, NY-- July 31

Beautiful, beautiful Watkins.  My 3rd time being there, and I'd love to go again!  Esp when it's a little cooler and there are fewer tourists.  July has got to be peak tourist season there!

Making sandwiches on the road
Lovely cloud day on our road to MI

New Hampshire and Vermont and drive to NY-- July 30

This was a singing drum!  Neat!  Different pitches, depending on where it's hit

We made it into Ben and Jerry's before the rain started coming down.  Had a nice tour, but it was a crowded tourist destination, that's for sure.  Claire was definitely not real happy about the product Ben and Jerry's produces.  Can you tell?

Hah!  This sign was a joke.  Good one, huh?

Instead of standing in the rain in a long line to order Ben and Jerry's ice cream, we drove to Dunkin  Donuts.:)
We then drove quite a ways, much of it thru rain.  Was a great day for rain!  Much better than on one of the other days of our trip.
We stayed the night in Sayre, PA, just over the border from NY.  Had a wonderful hotel-- for $66!!

Rohms House-- 3 nights

The Rohms are the parents of some friends of ours.  They live in North Berwick, Maine, not too far from NH.  We stayed there 3 nights on this trip.  Very gracious people with a lovely downstairs apartment that worked really well for us.  Plus, upstairs, they had some pet birds that Micah was in love with.

Boston, Massachusetts-- July 29

We walked the Freedom Trail.  Was a very hot, exhausting day!
If you can zoom in on the street performer above, you can see her lovely hairdo

At the Marketplace, we watched a breakdancing group called the Breeze Team-- they were good!  A little odd, but it was fun to watch!

Old North Church-- kids were interested in the box seats, etc; and we liked the gift shop with AC next door. :)

The ferry back
This park turned out to be the kids' favorite part of the day-- I think because we were so hot and exhausted.  Chad agreed to run back to get our van and pick us up here.  I bought the kids an Italian ice and a bottled water to share.  Perked them right up... they started arguing again within about 10 min. :)

Yes, Claire has a straw in her mouth.  No, she is not drinking from the weirdly shaped fountain!

Ogunquit Beach, Maine-- July 28

This was our other favorite day-- totally worth the $25 it cost to park.  We had a great time playing in the water, tide pools, finding hermit crabs and regular crabs and shells and even a sanddollar, relaxing, climbing rocks, enjoying God's beautiful ocean!

We had supper at Jake's Seafood-- clam strips, shrimp, lobster rolls.  Mmm!
And this place was less than 30 min from the place we were staying.

Connecticut and Rhode Island-- July 27

This turned out to be one of our favorite days of the trip.  It was exciting to experience the big cities, but everyone seemed to prefer the non-city days.
We poked around in the shops at Old Mystic, Connecticut.  Bought some fudge and souvenirs

And Rhode Island is beautiful!  Kids (and Chad) liked climbing on the rocks.

Then we did the Cliff Walk

Claire is in awe of the padlocks people attached to the fence-- and then someone spray painted them all.  Hmm

Micah was sure he saw someone down that hole!  Someone on the other side of the world.  Someone that talked back when he talked to him!

The foot pop was the kids' request :)

The Tree... this was probably their favorite part of this walk!
