MiniGolf

Sat we played mini golf in Martinsburg. Katie won. :) Chad didn't play-- he helped Micah and kept score and took pics. Micah was excited to try this. Couldn't figure out how to hold the club by himself, but sure had fun hitting the ball. Even got at least one hole-in-one!

Micah-dotes

Rainy day yesterday. Micah and I stopped at the Williamsport Library, a place he always loves to visit. At the door, he always reminds me to be quiet, and then he goes to play with the toys in the kids area. I didn't take long and shortly was checking out books at the counter. He came over to watch (asked me to pick him up because he wants to see what the lady does), and then we said goodbye and he started to head toward the door.

The library lady said, "Try to stay dry!"

Micah said, "I wear pull-ups now."

He-he! When I started laughing-- she was talking about the rain and he was talking about his pants-- the lady wanted to know what he had said. She got a good laugh out of it, too.

Also yesterday, Micah was watching an old video. He came upstairs to ask me to help him fix it. I said, "Is it doing something funny?"

He said, "No, it's BAD and DANGEROUS! And GLOOMY!"

First Winter Snow

Our first snow since Halloween. 2 inches. Just enough to play in. Came Fri during the night, when we had Claire's friend Audrey over.

Think Katie was enjoying this??

Duet?

This I love-- all 3 of the girls have really been enjoying piano lately (except

Katie doesn't really like to play her "have to" pieces :) and they will often be on the pianos for fun. They play thru each other's music and mess around a lot. The other day, Katie and Jenna were doing it this way-- Katie played the right hand and Jenna played the left hand. For the recital this year, they are doing a real duet-- 4 hands.

Handel Visit

Chris and Brenda Handel came with their 2 girls (son Mark couldn't come) last week. Had a great time with them. Claire and their Katie hit it off right away and got really silly together. The kids all played a fair amount of Rhythm. We ate herb bread (Aunt Kathy's recipe :) and filled chocolate cupcakes. A lot of fun reconnecting with old friends-- wish they lived closer.

A Jenna/Claire Creation

Spirit Week

We had Spirit Week at school a couple weeks ago. I dreaded it because last year it was miserable for me-- everyone upset about not knowing what to wear and/or not having the "right" things to wear (this is one reason I love uniforms). So, the week before we hit the dreaded week this year, when everyone was in a good mood, I made them all pledge (with their right hands in the air) to have good attitudes and not making Mommy miserable during Spirit Week. :) It worked! They had a much better time with it this year, and so did I.

This pic of all of them is on Clash Day. The pic of Jenna was Decade Day.

Joyful Jenna

Months ago, I did a post all about Micah. Decided I'll do one about each kid, Jenna being next.

I titled this "Joyful Jenna", and that is so true-- she has an overall personality of being cheerful, agreeable, joyful. She smiles a lot when she is around people she knows and loves. She is very social. A few weeks ago, Chad had Jenna, Katie, and me do a little test-- Jenna tested fairly high on the extrovert side (I think higher than Chad, Katie OR me). Hmmm. She acts very shy in many public instances, but she also doesn't really want to be alone much. Never has since she was little. Katie and Claire would want to be off pretending by themselves when they were little, but not Jenna (or Micah much, either, for that matter). Jenna would rather be in on what someone else is doing.

Jenna loves to play games, likes puzzles (helps me with large jigsaw puzzles), enjoys word games and Sudoku. She's very gifted at thinking thru math concepts, has beautiful handwriting, and good grammar/spelling. She's pretty academic and not real excited about physical pursuits. In fact, she still struggles with flinching when people throw balls toward her. However, she likes to jump rope and swim. Lately, she's been more interested in volleyball, but I haven't seen her play-- maybe playing it will help her get over her fear of the ball hitting her.

Jenna is extremely conscientious, in fact bordering on perfectionist sometimes. Those of us who are adults have seen the good side of perfectionism and the bad. This may be a blessing and a disadvantage for her all her life.

Within our family, she can be very dramatic-- does some hilarious things when acting out words for Guesstures. She did find out she enjoyed having a drama part in the Christmas musical at church, so maybe she'll pursue more drama in the future. She also sings very nicely on pitch, but I've not been able to convince her to sing a solo for anything.

Jenna loves to play piano, tho. She's been plowing through her piano books, and playing lots more than required. She really seems to enjoy it, and has ideas of maybe one day being a piano teacher. She's happy to play piano in public.

Jenna's always been a little fearful. Now her fear of bugs is a bit of a joke. She's even been called Jenna The Fierce. Which, if you know her at all, is hilarious. I offered her $10 if she would kill a cricket in our house last fall (there were 3-5 each day or so, so it wasn't hard to get an opportunity), but she never did manage it. She doesn't even have to touch them. I usually swing at them with a flipflop, so that I can get them before they hop away.

Her best friend at school is McKenzie Foster, whose nickname is Kenzie. Jenna has an interesting class with a few difficult boys, a lot of girls, and a really nice teacher, Daneen Murphy, who just got engaged. For this month, they even have an exchange student named Dong Wan (I think) from South Korea. His English isn't too swift, so he uses a little handheld translator a lot.

Jenna loves to bake with me, and she's pretty agreeable about doing most chores around the house. She's looking forward to being a mother someday.

She doesn't LIKE to keep her room clean, tho. She's been doing this lately because she knows I'm watching for signs of responsibility if she's going to be able to get her ears pierced sometime. :) I'm a little afraid that we could let her get her ears pierced, and the next day her room will go downhill!

Christmas in MI

Went with part of the family to Meijer Gardens. Beautful place, dozens of Christmas trees decorated with different country themes, indoor tropical conservatory and other indoor garden areas, really cool train display overhead, and a children's garden outside (it was a little cold :).

Boden and Micah are fast friends, and they can get pretty goofy together (and a little naughty sometimes!). See them holding hands here?

The giant pancake Katie ate at Rainbow.

Heidi, Boden, Nathan. Heidi's the only one of those 3 that really sucks her thumb. : )

Caleb figures out his new pounding toy from Papa and Grammy

Dad/Chad/I took a few kids to the Holland Aquatic Center. The water was a little cold for me (Dad hung out in the hot tub a lot :), but the girls had a great time. Favorites were the water slide and the whirlpool.

Claire reads to Heidi. Heidi loves books. Jenna also read to her different times.

Hey, Eric, look at Heidi's non-thumb hand. :) Guess that's usual, huh?

Heidi turns 3!

Celebrating Christ's Birth

Package

This was taken after the kids opened the package from Nathan and Wendy. As with all our holidays, Christmas gets way spread out for us, and we like it that way! The kids enjoy their presents more when they don't get them all at once. We opened a package from Gpa and Gma one day, opened Uncle Jer and Aunt Danielle's another day, and opened Uncle Nathan and Aunt Wendy's another day. Then we had our family Christmas on Dec. 25, and headed to MI for the Steenwyk party on Dec. 29.
