Fine Arts

It has been Fine Arts season at Grace.  This year, they revamped the whole process, so we were very busy.  Hopefully, we can get some of the kinks worked out for next year.  Claire and Micah both won ribbons for their recitation of poetry, and they were invited to repeat them for a competition with another school.  C had no desire to do that again, but Micah didn't mind.  A recording of his poem is below.

Piano Recital

The much dreaded piano recital is over.  Every year, when we are in the week before, I wonder why I put myself thru this torture.  And the girls have been trying hard to talk me out of having any more.  However, every year when we are actually having the recital, and then afterward, I am reminded why we do it.  It's such a good experience for the kids to be playing up front when they are young! (How many people start something like that when they are older?)  The recital gives them a chance to commiserate with others, see other students' progression, get lots of positive affirmation (esp from adults who would never have the guts to get up front to play piano!), share what they've been learning, see their own progression from year to year, and get inspired to keep practicing!
The whole thing went really well.  I'm so proud of all my students.  The Wingert girls did a terrific job!  Wish you all could have been here. Don and Anita and Jer and Dani came-- thanks, guys!  And Anita, as always, helped with snacks-- wonderful!

Here's the group who played.  Not counting me, they range from 5 years old to a senior in high school.  In all, I think I have 28 students.  I don't require the ones at Grace to be in this recital since they have to do one at school in May, and 4 of the ones that just started in the past couple months weren't in it this year.

Children's Worship

This past Sunday, our children led the worship in both morning services.  It was a real blessing, even to me while leading it.  We sang songs as a choir, had the congregation sing with us, had soloists and even a praise team, recited all of Ps 100, sang the Doxology, and Micah led a prayer.  God is good!

Our First Day of Spring

Funny!  This is what we got the first day of spring!  About 4 inches of wet stuff.  And, maybe even funnier, Grace (and all the Wash Co schools) didn't even have a delay.  After all the months of delays and cancellations for less than this... Maybe they were getting sick of messing with the school schedule?  We were pretty surprised.  However, Faith still cancelled, so Katie enjoyed a lovely long weekend.

Wacky Wednesday

This month was Ted Geisel's bday, so Micah's class enjoyed honoring Dr. Seuss books all month.  On this particular Wednesday, the had a "Wacky Wednesday" at school.  Looked pretty wacky, didn't he?

Teenager!

Our beautiful Jenna turned 13!  It's hard to believe, and yet it's not.  She's been acting like a teenager for some time now. :)
It was a school day, so celebrating was not huge.  We got her breakfast in her bunkbed.  After my lessons in the evening, we had the dinner she requested-- chicken on a stick, flaky biscuits, fruit parfaits, corn, and brownies.
We love you, Jenna!

Snow

We finally got the decently big snow we'd been hoping for all winter.  About 9-10 inches.  Very light and not packable at first.  A couple days later, as it was starting to melt, Chad and the kids had fun building a fort with it.

Color

We were all yearning for some spring color, so I went out and bought the brightest tablecloth I could find. :)
